Getting with the program

Well, library classmates, I'll be changing the profile information for myself. I was a little confused about what the assignment was... but I think I'm getting with the program.

It's funny because I've been working on developing a simultaneous blog/website (I'm not efficient like many of you probably are) that I'd like to develop during this class. Maybe some of you could help me with some ideas on the concept:

My background is in journalism (newspapers) and I am interested in starting a news/feature blog about my geographic community of the Central San Joaquin Valley in Fresno. I see it as a self-publishing venture, sort of like a mini online magazine where the information is presented as a blog, but then also packaged on the website. I was doing some reading and the website Online Journalism Review has some good resources.

I also found the site Blog Herald that is a great news source for bloggers (like serious, professional bloggers who discuss rankings and such), which is interesting reading for any of you with serious professional aspirations on blogging.

Accessibility

The readings on accessibility were equally fascinating. I never considered the problems that many people have using the mouse or screen. I know plenty of people with wrist issues so I am not surprised, but I never extended my thinking beyond that.

Colors

I found this week's readings enlightening. The section of colors was totally new to me. I didn't realize there was such a science to website colors. I especially enjoyed the explanation of how colors are produced by screens (groups of three dots, in various intensities).

New blog direction

Hi library school students. This blog is not being shared with the entire school community. I started it as a practice exercise before starting blogs for other teachers. I was not in use before this quarter.

Here's a handy website to help you if you ever met a broken link. A broken link is when you click on it, and it leads you to a dead-end or error message.
www.archive.org is address for the Internet Archive. Copy your broken link's address into the "Way Back" machine on the homepage, and travel back in time to when that link worked.
